Anthony Gaines celebrates an emphatic dunk during the Wildcats’ exhibition opener in the debut of the new Welsh-Ryan Arena. The Northwestern facility received $110 million in upgrades. Additions include new seating with chair-backs, new and expanded restrooms, concession areas with twice as many point-of-sale stations and new locker rooms for men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball. The NAA dates back to June 22, 1881, when the nascent organization hosted the University’s first Alumni Day. Today, 60 NAA regional clubs — 43 in the U.S. and 17 internationally — connect alumni with their peers. As the NAA honors the traditions and experiences that have shaped the association over the past 140 years, it is looking ahead to new ways to engage all alumni.
As Arnold Weber prepares to leave the University in August, he is remembered for enhancing Northwestern’s reputation as one of the country’s great teaching and research institutions.
Last fall — following a 16-month closure for major renovations — the Charles Deering Memorial Library reopened to students, faculty and visitors. The building may look the same on the outside, but a new era has begun after aesthetic and functional updates to the library’s interior.
