I was stunned to see that Maresca and Moore's bag is made of leather, the use of which supports cruelty to animals. As successful fashion designer Stella McCartney said in 2012, “Using leather to make a handbag is cruel. But it’s also not modern; you’re not pushing innovation” (New York Times Magazine, 2-22-12). I am saddened that this is the best these women could do.
Blip energy CEO Sophia Wennstedt, a second-year student in the University’s MBA and design innovation dual-degree program, and her team of Northwestern entrepreneurs created blipOne, a device that allows users to store electricity when it is cheap and discharge power when it is expensive.
A few years ago, graduate student Kinsey Hart wanted to celebrate a promotion with a new piece of jewelry. She had a simple design in mind but could not find her dream piece. Her jewelry startup, Alva, lets consumers create their vision.
